Intersegmental Traction

Intersegmental Traction is a way of inducing passive motion into the spine for the purpose of stretching spinal joints, increasing mobility.

Intersegmental Traction works by inducing passive motion into the patient’s spine in order to stretch spinal joints and increase mobility. When used as part of a therapeutic regimen, it helps to gently reestablish normal range of motion to the spine. It has been shown to treat muscle spasms through facilitating muscle relaxation. Intersegmental Traction greatly accelerates the healing process with spinal stretching and stimulation.

Intersegmental Traction therapy is a painless process. The patient lies face up on a bench table with roller-type rollers beneath the surface. These rollers slowly make their way up and down the length of the spine, stretching spinal joints. Most patients report finding the treatment to be relaxing and very helpful. The gentle rolling action is massage-lie and restful while exercising the spine without any effort on part of the patient.

Spinal discs have a poor blood supply and get most of its nutrients from the circulation of fluids surrounding spinal joints. And fixations to the spinal cord prevents this natural circulation and can cause disc thinning which can potentially lead to degeneration. Intersegmental traction combats risk of degeneration by increasing and restoring necessary elasticity and motion to the spine.

Patient Benefits

  • A comfortable and relaxing experience
  • Improves balance, strength and mobility
  • Improves circulation of blood flow, oxygen and spinal fluids
  • Stretches ligaments and muscles sorrounding the spine while simultaneously mobilizing the spinal column
  • Reduces muscle spasms and spinal subluxations

Intersegmental Traction can be used alone or in conjunction with other therapeutic techniques – such as heat, chiropractic adjustments, and massage therapy – to achieve maximum healing results. The therapy process is painless and non-invasive to heal injured, fatigued and traumatized muscles in a holistic manner.
