Why You Should Care About Your Posture

Sit up straight, don’t slouch, remember your posture. Phrases we have all heard from our caring parents. But, does staying posed actually carry any benefits? Chiropractors say yes.

The American Chiropractic Association lists poor posture as one of the causes of low back pain. Meaning, if you want to avoid one of the leading causes of disability in the world, you might want to take a closer look at how you hold your back, neck, hips, and feet.

When you begin incorporating proper posture in your life, two things happen:

You Feel Better

Carrying proper posture through daily life aids in preventing injury, strengthening muscles, and how you breathe. All improving your overall health and wellbeing. Sitting or standing hunched over puts unwanted pressure on your spine, which over time, can cause unwanted pain.

You Look Better

Before you think practicing your posture is only good for you (which should be enough to convince you), it also helps with your appearance. Standing up straight improves how you present yourself and how people perceive you — making you look immediately more confident. Practicing proper posture has also been shown to assist in weight loss when coupled with a workout routine.

Although you may assume you just know how to exercise proper posture, you should always have a chiropractor check out your spine. They will make sure your spine is aligned and assure you don’t possess any postural imbalances. If your spine does need adjusting, your chiropractor can easily realign your back and give you personalized tips on how to improve your posture.
